Here are two direct quotes from Mike Atherton in the post match presentation as he talked to the man-of-the-match Ian Bell..
"This is a sharp fielding unit.. Do you think you've got about 30 runs up on the Indian side even before the game starts?"
"And with the way these Indians run, you must think you always have the chance of a run out?"
And both of the above with a very haughty smirk on his face..
WTF?!!!
I'd be the first to admit that we haven't been fielding and running very well but who the Hell does this guy think he is?! Does he not remember the drubbing this Indian teams gave the English guys in the test series barely 2 weeks ago.. and even the one-day series is still very evenly poised at 2 - 1, what's wrong with this guy?!!
Even Harsha Bhogle sarcastically asked Gavaskar after the presentation.. "Hearing Mike Atherton speak there, one would think the Indian team failed their class 12th boards or something?!"
The only saving grace is the Indian commentators.. these ex-players who while being objective and dishing it out where criticism is due, never fail to come to the defence of the Indian players when some of these videshis go on their rant for no reason.
It was classic when an Indian batsmen was given out (again) leg before when he had totally nicked it with the bat.. all Ian Chappel was interested in was how the shot wasn't the perfect one to play on the ball with absolutely no mention of the fact that the umpire screwed up so bad. It took a Ravi Shastri to come up with.. "Sure, there was a bit of misjudgement on the batsmen's part but the umpire's got eyes.. that's a howler"
:D
Chappel does do crazy stuff like that.. and he sure doesn't like Sachin.. he was totally into proving his clairvoyance by repeating again and again that Tendulkar would get a call from the match referee (which he in fact didn't!!) for his supposed dissent.. and it was really funny to hear him say.. "When so-and-so got out at 99 twice in 1905 and 1906, you didn't hear him asking the umpires to use technology.."
Huh?!!! You didn't hear him ask for a cellphone either but if he had the option, you think he'd like one, don't you?!!
Anyways, chak de India!! Let's wipe that smirk of Atherton's big mouth.. I just hope India wins the series.. and Ganguly rubs his smelly sweaty shirt in his face!!

And there goes Monty chasing the ball.. uh.. more like escorting it to the boundary! (or sth to that effect). I love the delight in harsha bhogle's voice when Panesar's fielding!
Amen - I would love to see someone from India take off the shirt again from those "hallowed" balconies of the Lords!!
I don't understand why some commentators like Atherton, Chappel, and Fernandes and the gang do leave their attitudes while doing the job.
Maybe some Indian commentator could ask Atherton to go back and check out the number of times Matt Prior could not hold a catch if you just put it in his gloves.
And while Atherton does not put it in a nice fashion, it is the truth that Indian fielding has been pathetic at the best in the series. Wonder what Robin Singh is up to?
